Currently…

I’m stealing this “currently” blog post idea from Katy Upperman, who stole it from Kate Hart, who stole it from Amy Lukavics, who stole it from someone else. It’s a fun idea and I plan to use it often. Feel free to steal it from any one of us.

Loving

That the world is in bloom. I love springtime. The weather has warmed up, birds are chirping outside my window, and everywhere I look I see color—deep pink rhododendrons, red Japanese maples, cherry blossoms. I can almost smell the hope in the air.

Reading

I recently finished The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski and it was ewinner's kissverything I hoped it would be and more. I’ve loved this series from the beginning and the author did such a beautiful job making the final book its own story, while still finishing of the arc of the series in such a satisfying way. It was wonderful.

Also, not too long ago I read Secrets of a Charmed Life by Susan Meissner and I was captivated. This historical fiction is a story-within-a-story, alternating between current day Oxford England and 1940s war-torn England. It was beautifully written and I will definitely pick up other books by Susan Meissner in the future.

Watching

We took our kids to see Zootopia recently and it got two thumbs up from the whole family. It’s sweet and funny and just as fun for adults as it is for kids. Also, my husband and I saw 10 Cloverfield Lane and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, legitimately freaked out. It was definitely scary in that subtle, creepy way that is more terrifying than monsters could ever be. I’m still thinking about the ending, though, and still not sure how I feel about it.

Listening To

We just got back from a Spring break road trip and sadly, didn’t bring our own music. One thing you learn when you’re in the car for 30 hours over seven days is that the same ten songs play over-and-over. (And over). I think I’ll give my XM radio a break for a bit.

Thinking About

Plotting my next book. It seems strange that my first book isn’t out yet and I’m already gearing up to write the third, but it’s true. Publishing moves at a pace that is hard to explain unless you’ve lived through it, but the short version is that authors are writing two or more years ahead of what’s actually hitting bookshelves.

Anticipating

My book cover. I haven’t seen it yet and so I’m thinking about seeing it ALL. THE. TIME. I was actually pretty chill with this until I turned in my draft for my most recent book, but now that I don’t have the distraction of writing, I’m pretty much obsessed.

Wishing

For more hours in the day. Or maybe for more hours at night so that I could sleep more? I always have so much more to do than time to do it all.

Making Me Happy

All the wonderful readers who have found my book on Goodreads. It makes me so happy to check in every so often and see that more people have heard about Poison’s Kiss and have added it to their shelves. If you haven’t added it yet, here’s the link: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25081261-poison-s-kiss
